Under the general supervision of the Division’s Quality Engineering Manager, the Quality Engineer ensures that the appropriate quality methods, procedures, process control plans and risk mitigation efforts are employed in support of new product development efforts and existing operational processes.
The Quality Engineer is a professional with a broad understanding of the principals of product and service quality evaluation and control, delivering their knowledge and ability to develop and administer fundamental quality concepts.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Quality Management System Concepts
Exhibits a fundamental understanding of a quality system and its development, improvement, documentation, and implementation to all applicable ISO requirements.
Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of successful auditing techniques, including audit preparation, execution, reporting results and follow-through.
Supports Corporate /Divisional compliance efforts by becoming knowledgeable with applicable regulatory compliance requirements (i.e. ITAR/EAR, REACH, RoHS)
Advanced Product Quality Planning
Contributes technical leadership to assigned process development and planning efforts
Facilitates and shapes the Project Teams’ feasibility assessments of proposed processes
Advises and helps to develop a Project Teams’ risk evaluation and mitigating efforts
Prepares, leads and completes Process Validation Protocols to planned milestones
Prepares the production control plans, measurement systems evaluation, and planning approvals to help ensure management support
Process Analysis, Controls & Quality Cost Diagnosis
Presents an experienced ability to develop and implement quality assessment tools including the tracking, analyzing, reporting and process problem solving abilities
Acquires, compiles and presents data in support of Process Validation activities
Conducts process data analysis using appropriate standard quantitative methods
Facilitates process cost analysis and diagnoses process deficiencies for improvement
Applied process deficiency identification and correction techniques
Demonstrates an understanding of human factors and the ability to motivate others with assuming process ownership
Conducts and facilitates successful failure Investigations (i.e. cause-effect analysis, root cause corrective action, failure recurrence control evaluations)
Continual Improvement: Identifies opportunities and facilitates improvements to process design and product development efforts
Sampling Principals, Inspection Plans and Statistical Methods
Apply fundamental statistical sampling methods appropriately (i.e. common quality tools, control charts, probability, continuous/discrete data distributions, etc.)
Ability to develop and apply the most suitable type of acceptance sampling plans to an application or requirement.
Provide guidance in establishing suitable inspection plans to achieve requirements
Exhibits strong skills and knowledge on the subject of Geometric Dimension/Tolerancing
Maintains a current, in-depth understanding of metrology, measurement instruments, measurement terminology and calibration standards
Project Management Tools, Techniques
Capable of planning, organizing and achieving planned work activities by demonstrating a strong project management skillset.
Able to focus on work efficiency and addressing risks identified along a project’s critical path, escalating for resource support where required.
A successful Quality Engineer communicates with and regularly aligns to cross-functional product development/sustainment team efforts which achieve and improve the costs of product quality, process reliability, and process capability in accordance with quality principals and fundamentals.
Required Education and Experience
A Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering/technical discipline, or equivalent. Five or more years of documented Quality Engineering in lieu of degree may be considered.
Familiarity with Quality Systems (e.g. AS9100, ISO9001, ISO13485, etc.)
Trained in statistical methods, fundamental quality tools and methodologies
Project experience applying Lean Sigma concepts/techniques, Six Sigma certification desired
Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality at all times
Proficient in common Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing practices, i.e. ANSI Y14.5M
Proficient with MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and use of a PC
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Reading comprehension, understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents in English.
Proficiency in technical writing skills, organizing and compiling data reports
Strong math and analytical skills
Strong decision making skills
Ability to plan and organize work activities with a focus on efficiency.
Ability to work under time constraints with changing priorities under minimal supervision
Must be able to follow directions and work in a team environment
